Welcome and Introductions.
Review of the May 3, 2007 minutes.
Legislative Updates – Richard Rea, Congressman Dreier – Richard reported that their office has fielded up to 100 calls from people who applied for their passports, but are experiencing extreme delays in getting them. Because you are now required to have a passport for travel to Canada and Mexico, the volume of requests for passports is overwhelming the State Department Passport office. Bob Cruz asked for a report on the Congressman’s position on the “No Child Left Behind” program. Over 150 students were interviewed for the Congressman’s “Youth Volunteer Award.”
Steve Johnson, Assemblyman Adams –No report
Brian Mejia, Supervisor Antonovich – No report
Norma Pontello, Senator Margett – Transportation concerns for the San Gabriel Valley remain a critical issue. The San Gabriel Valley Coalition has asked for their share of these transportation dollars. Sacramento is gearing up for the big budget push. Seven healthcare proposals are in the budget, which is a lot and will make it hard to review all of them. Prison reform remains an issue.
Chairman’s Report, Jennetta Harris – Our thanks to Congressman Dreier for all his work on healthcare, transportation and immigration issues. The Gold Line is working, but the number of riders needs to increase. Regarding the proposed Governor’s Health Plan, we need to get a speaker come to an upcoming Legislative meeting and speak to us about the program. Work needs to begin on the October 2007 Power Lunch. Chris Jeffers has been hired as the new Glendora City Manager. The committee is making the recommendation that the Chamber send a welcoming letter to Mr. Jeffers which should include our mission statement and to host an open house reception for him.
Reports from City of Glendora – No report.
Glendora Unified School District, Doris Blum – Another school year is winding down. Graduation is scheduled for June 13th.
The Gas Company, Bob Cruz – Resolution with the AQMD on environmental issues has happened.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:25 pm Minutes recorded by V. Thompsett |
